It was this ability of dreaming and dreaming big that turned the life of Dr. Muhammed Majeed, Founder and Managing Director, Sami Labs Limited, on its head. His unparalleled zeal helped him and Sami Labs scale the heights of success within a short span of time and continues to drive the company towards excellence even today.

Journey of a visionary

Having obtained his degree in pharmacy from the Kerala University in the year 1975, Dr. Muhammed Majeed moved to the US where he completed his Master of Science degree in Industrial Pharmacy from Long Island University, New York. He also completed his doctorate in the same field from St. John’s University, New York. After completing his education, he worked for top pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer Inc., Carter-Wallace and Paco Research.

With a vision of introducing Indian Ayurveda to Americans as a complete curative to various ailments, Dr. Muhammed Majeed set up Sabinsa Corporation in 1988. The company marketed more than 30 standardised botanical extracts, most of which were derived from Indian plant materials. In 1991, Dr. Majeed established Sami Labs at Singasandra in Bengaluru as a research and development facility, with an objective to develop nutraceuticals and other fine chemicals. Dr. Muhammed Majeed made Sabinsa Corporation the American arm of Sami Labs. In 2010, he founded a direct marketing entity of Sami Labs called Sami Direct.

Dr. Muhammed Majeed’s continuous endeavours have helped Sami Labs emerge as a globally known brand. Today the company has more than 75 international patents and a string of strategic alliances in the US, Japan, Europe, Australia, Middle East, China, etc.

Awards and Recognitions

Dr. Muhammed Majeed’s in-depth knowledge and contributions in pharmacy has helped him win various awards and recognitions. In 1994, he received the National Award for Quality Products from the Ministry of Industry, Government of India. In 1997, he was bestowed with the Certificate of Honour for Export Achievement from the Spices Board under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. Dr. Majeed also received the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honour from the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations in 2004. He was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Kerala Association of New Jersey in the same year. In 2010, Dr. Majeed received the Daniel B. Stateman award for distinguished alumni from the Long Island University. In the same year, he received the distinguished alumni award from Trivandrum Medical College.
