Sami Labs gets patent for 3 active ingredients

New Delhi

The Bangalore-based Sami Labs Ltd, a Rs 250 crore health science organisation has got patents for three new active ingredients - Tetrahydrocurcuminoids (THC), Coleus oil and ZeaLutien. These have applications in the dermatology, infective and geriatric ophthalmology markets.

The company has got approval for these three active ingredients recently, said a company release.

The 3 active ingredients in nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals formulations have a combined estimated market size of Rs 20 crore. Sami Labs hopes to capture 5 per cent of the total market in the next three years with these discoveries.

Sami Labs has so far invested close to Rs 60 crore in four production units at Bangalore, Singasandra, Kunigal and Mysore, the release said. It also has a research facility at Bangalore.

The company is also involved in biotech research in probiotics and is expected to roll out products by the end of 2004. It is targeting Rs 100 crore turnover for its formulations business in India by the close of 2006.
