Sami Labs may setup unit in AP

Sami Labs Limited, a Bangalore-based transnational health science company, is optimistic about setting up a nutraceutical manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh in the coming months, Muhammed Majeed, Chairman & Managing Director of Sami Labs said here.

Sami Labs, which is a leading producer of nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, standardised herbal extracts, fine chemicals, specialty chemicals and probiotics, is scouting various sites in the State including Jeedimetla, Zaheerabad and a few coastal areas, for setting up of the unit, Dr Majeed said.

Sami Labs is also in negotiations with the Agricultural Department of Andhra Pradesh to start a buy-back arrangement based programme for the State farmers to cultivate medicinal plants, he said.

“Andhra Pradesh is great for medicinal plant cultivation. We will introduce a scheme for the farmers in Andhra Pradesh to cultivate medicinal plants with the help of NGOs and government bodies,” said Dr Majeed, adding that a similar programme saw big success in Tamil Nadu.
