In May 2004 Dr Muhammed Majeed, founder and CEO of Sabinsa Corporation, was awarded the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honour.

This award was created in 1986 to pay tribute to those who through struggle, sacrifice and success significantly helped build the United States and make it the great nation it is today. Ellis Island is indeed a very evocative name, especially for those countries who have seen many of their fellow citizens cross the ocean in search of hope. Ellis Island was America's gate for immigrants of all nations and represented a new beginning to these people.

Dr.Muhammed Majeed

Today immigration has shifted to other latitudes, yet there is no doubt that the old routes to New York's harbour have marked deep traces not only on the sea surface but also in the souls of the thousands of people who travelled them.

Undoubtedly, these immigrants have collectively shaped this great nation and the spirit of freedom and opportunity it has always represented a reference for all countries.

The Ellis Island Medal of Honour is indeed a tribute to this spirit so deeply rooted throughout the nation, and those being awarded ideally receive this prize also for the nation they were born in and come from. Given the above, SABINSA, founded in 1988 by Muhammed Majeed Ph.D, has a history reflecting a typical "American" success story, which started in a most ancient country - India, a nation with a great historical and cultural heritage, besides a natural flair for science, yet still not much disclosed to the Western world. Muhammed Majeed has functioned as a link between these two cultures apparently so distant one from the other, and has set up a most interesting manufacturing business in the market, to such an extent that SABINSA is one of America's fastest-growing businesses and has recently ranked among the top ten companies awarded with the New Jersey Techonology fast 50 awards, besides being ranked by INC 500 among the top 100 companies for two years in a row.

Muhammed Majeed has also been awarded the National Award for Quality Products (Basic Drugs) by India's President in 1995. In 2002, SAMI Labs was awarded the National Award for R&D Efforts in the Chemical and Allied Industries (Awarded by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Govt. of India, New Delhi). Muhammed Majeed was born and raised in Kerala, India. He emigrated to the United States in 1975, shortly after graduating with a degree in pharmacy from Kerala University. Upon arriving in the United States, Majeed began working for top pharmaceutical companies while continuing his studies, receiving his Ph.D. in Industrial Pharmacy from St. John's University, New York in 1986. Just two years later, in 1988, Dr. Majeed founded Sabinsa Corporation.

He then made another significant step towards shaping the leading company he drives today by establishing SAMI Labs Ltd., a research group and manufacturing facility located in India that operates in conjunction with Sabinsa to develop nutraceuticals and fine chemicals.

Sabinsa products are the result of rigorous clinical studies and research and development work carried out in labs located in the U.S. and in India (Sabinsa has over 100 R&D scientists working full time). Manufacturing is then performed going from pilot scale to industrial production.

Hence, SABINSA's approach to the market stems from a vision that places today's man and his search for wellness at the centre of crucial historical changes and achievements. HPC Today has underlined many times how the demand for body care has been on a steady rise for years, and not only to meet beauty needs through simple external application of products. There is increasing awareness over the fact skin care is tightly linked to body functionality and our most intimate being. This vision, once mainly a philosophical concept, is today supported by strong scientific research and literature.

Dermatology and nutrition sciences work closely together and share the same approach to human body and its inner being. Wellness is no longer just a matter of "feeling well", it is actually a psychicphysical condition based on well-balanced internal body functions. SABINSA's work stems from this vision, because India with its millenary culture for both the body and the spirit through the use of naturally available resources and the US with its cutting-edge technology have turned what once was just a vision into reality: two once very distant worlds jointly working to achieve a common goal, that is providing comprehensive support to support high wellness standards man demands today.

SABINSA today can boast important intellectual property allowing it to provide a large high-quality range of products, supported by registering many patents and the awarding of significant scientific recognition. Muhammed Majeed has undoubtedly been able to set up a lively business, with promising growth forecasts.

This also stands as encouragement for everyone in a time where the world needs new challenges and important models to follow, successful stories that can guide and inspire hope into young generations shaping their future. Under this view, we can state that the Ellis Island Gate is always open for those who dream and work hard to make it come true.
